1. Wolverine Titan 8-in-1 High-Resolution Film to Digital Converter

With a name like this I couldn’t skip over it could I folks? Let’s take a look at how the penultimate entry on my list handled business when I put it to the ultimate field test.

4.3” screen is more than a match for any display on this list

No screen on this list is as large as the one that comes with this piece of kit. If you want to be able to explore every image in expansive detail, then you can really zoom in and take it all in. That is ideal, as you’re going to be able to take a closer look and focus on the task at hand.

HDMI output allows you to relive the good old days on your HDTV

I love that you can wire this thing directly into your HDTV with the minimum of fuss. I had a great time with my whole family when I got a slideshow up and running with the click of a button. There was no fiddling with wireless connections or adaptors. I just plugged in the ubiquitous HDMI cable that every home entertainment system has, and we had a great evening. If this sounds like what you could do with, then, I’d certainly suggest a closer look on your part my friends!

A reliable way to handle any brand of 35 mm film

The great thing about this device is how gently it handles your precious old movies. No matter how old a roll of 35 mm film I loaded into it, I was able to feed it through nice and smoothly. That will be a great source of relief for those of you who want to ensure that you never run the risk of damaging any of your negatives or originals.

2. Magnasonic All-In-One High-Resolution 22MP Film Scanner

These guys were a new name to me so I was excited to dive right in and see how they’ve gone about things. Let’s take a look at what I thought and you’ll be able to see for yourself if you want to add it to your own personal shortlist

At 22 MP this thing can more than hold its own on this list of 10 of the best

The resolution is very impressive and shouldn’t leave you wishing for more. Trust me when I say this because when it comes to my family photos, I have one of the most discerning eyes around.

Works with the old Super 8 style films which, is incredible

This thing even works with the old Super 8 films of which I’m a big fan. If you used to shoot every family gathering and Xmas on this standard, then you’ll have mountains of it stored away somewhere. There are no special features or workarounds needed to accept it; it just works the moment you unbox it!

2.4”LCD was more than good enough for the task at hand

The size of the screen may be slightly smaller than the very largest on this list, but I didn’t find that to be an issue at all. It allowed me to view and zoom in any scanned image I wanted with minimal fuss. Everything you need from a built-in screen really isn’t it.

128MB of built-in memory makes checking your scans nice and simple

The onboard memory is a nice touch because it means you can use this as a standalone device. By being able to use it anywhere without having to interface with your PC, you’ll be able to work wherever you want. I think that you’ll find it totally refreshing to be able to use it in this way; I know that I did! The added bonus to this approach is that it makes it easy for you to get the files off it once you’re finished. A great little all in one solution that will make your life a lot easier.

Best Digital Film & Slide Scanners

3. KODAK SCANZA Digital Film & Slide Scanner

Kodak is perhaps the biggest name in the world of photography; after all these guys invented the digital camera. Could there be a better reason to take a look at what they can do?

3.5” display made things nice and easy for me

The display on this thing was really easy to use, and the size was spot on for what I needed. The clarity and resolution were excellent and made reviewing my scans very straightforward. A very welcome feature in my opinion.

Works for any size of negative or slide which was a nice touch

The great thing about this piece of kit is its adaptability. If you have a whole different range of sizes of film that you want to scan in, then that won’t be an issue. The loading speeds automatically adjust so that you never have to cross your fingers and hope for the best. Perfect for making sure you correctly handle even the most delicate of films.

A simple user interface and loading tray that made my life a lot easier

The user interface is a very nice addition to the simple to use loading tray. Sometimes with these types of devices, you have to refer to the manual a dozen times before you get up and running. With a quick skim read, I was happy after a couple of minutes. Ideal for those of you who are big fans of plug and play.

Comes with all the necessary cables and adaptors for both Mac and PC users

The final thing I want to mention is that this has everything you need to be able to use it straight out of the box. Ideal for those of you who don’t want to have to order a two dollar adaptor before you can use your new pride and joy. For me, this is a big plus because it tells you that Kodak is still a company that cares a great deal about the user experience.

4. PictoScanner Film and Slide Scanner

These guys have been making quite a name for themselves over the last few months, so I wanted to put them to the test. Here’s what I discovered…

Ideal for any variety of 35 mm slides

The great thing about this device is how universal it is. The fact that you can load up any brand of film makes things easy. There are adaptor plates or modifications you need to make to the loading system. All I had to do was pop in the film and click ‘scan.’ That’s really all there was to it!

Works with black and white negatives as well as color

I love the fact that the digital interpolation software works just as well with black and white as it does with color. That allows you to use it for a whole box full of films the moment you set it up. Ideal if you want to store your family’s entire catalog of memories in a single afternoon.

Comes with a handy app that makes using it as easy as a quick swipe

The app is a great little addition that I think will make your user experience even better. It offers a whole range of features that made my life easier and it’s also an excellent way to send and receive the images that you capture. I think it’s perfect if you want to make venturing into the world of tech as straightforward as it should be.

Batteries not included so make sure you order some to avoid disappointment

One potential drawback is that the batteries it requires to run aren’t included. There are far more significant issues with devices that haven’t made it onto this list, but I felt the need to mention it. As long as you’re aware of it in advance, you know that you’ll be able to use it straight out of the box. Ideal for ensuring that you never have to make a last minute dash to the store before it closes for the night.

5. Jumbl 22MP All-In-1 Film & Slide Scanner

I’ve been a big fan of these guys for a while so it was nice to finally get the opportunity to use some of their kit myself. Here are my thoughts for your consideration folks…

22 MP should be more than enough to capture all of those fine details

The resolution was impressive, and it will be more than enough for what you need. It offers everything you’ll need to be able to enhance every slide and display your memories in all their glory. That could be perfect if you want to enlarge images and make your own wall art to decorate the family home. They have certainly taken care of everything when it comes to accepting different types of film. No matter what you have the chances are you’ll be able to slide it right in without any fuss. It even accepts the lesser spotted 126 mm films which, is great news for those of you who have plenty of it stored away. If there’s a film size that it doesn’t accept, then I certainly didn’t find it!

You don’t need a PC or laptop because of the onboard memory which is nice

The built-in memory ensures that you can use it as a standalone device. No matter where you want to use it you should be able to set it up and get to work. This was a big relief for me because I’m not a big fan of having to fiddle with the interfacing problems that can arise every time a software update is released.

Video output allows you to connect it directly to your TV or monitor

I loved that I could scan everything in and connect it to my HDTV. I got the whole family over, and we spent the evening reminiscing about some of the great times we’ve had together. If you want to be able to put on a real show, then you’re going to be in for a treat with this one my friends! Highly recommended from me to you!

We’ve just crossed over the halfway mark on my list so let’s keep up the momentum shall we! Here’s what I thought about one of the very best scanners on the market right now.

A Portable solution that you can take anywhere without the need for a PC

I love the fact that you don’t have to use it connected to a PC. With a whole host of potential issues when you start trying to handle software updates, it’s nice to be able to sidestep that hassle entirely. Another perfect device, if you want to be able to use it anywhere, and set it up in seconds without any troubleshooting.

2.4” color screen is great for reviewing your captured images

The color screen is a nice little touch because it allows you to review your captured images nice and easily. If you want to be able to ensure you have everything just so before moving onto your next roll of film, then this is going to be perfect for you. I’ll admit that there are bigger screen sizes on this list, but I didn’t find myself longing for a larger screen at any point. Now if that isn’t a glowing endorsement, then I don’t know what is folks!

I’m a fan of this company and can’t wait for you to read my thoughts. Here they are folks…

22 MP resolution is more than enough for even the most discerning eye

The resolution is way up at 22 MP which is ideal if you have even the most discerning eye. No matter how much I scrutinized the scans, I was making I wasn’t able to find any way I thought they could be better. Hopefully, this is music to the ears of those of you that want nothing but the very best.

With a range of different films in your attic, it is great news that this piece of kit can work with them all. It even allows you to work with the old Super 8 standard which a lot of lesser devices struggle with.

Onboard storage means you can use this thing without fiddling with your computer

The onboard storage is a nice touch because it allows you to use it as a stand-alone device. I like this approach because it allowed me to use it without having to use a PC and fiddle around with it. Try and see if you can find a video of it being used online so that you can fully appreciate the usability that I experienced.

8. Pacific Image PrimeFilm XE 35mm Film & Slide Scanner

Here we are then friends; the final entry on my list. Remember there are no rankings here because all ten are top contenders. Take a look at this final review and then start drawing up your shortlist.

One-touch scan button makes this nice and easy — just like they should be!

I loved how simple the one-touch scan button makes things. Once everything is loaded, you can just tap away until you’re done. If you have a load of slides to work through, as I did, then this will make things a lot easier for you. No one likes to have to monotonously do the same clicking combo to navigate a host of menus each time. An excellent option for those of you that place usability above all else.

CCD sensor provides the most sensitive image capture I’ve ever seen

The CCD sensor is great because it offers you the highest resolution and image capture sensitivity on the market. No matter how discerning your eye is, you should be able to extract the maximum color contrast and line definitions. An added plus is that because you’ll be going for something state of the art, you’ll be able to use it for years to come without having it overshadowed by other models.

48-bit color depth allows you to capture all of those fine details from days gone by

I love the color depth that this thing can create because it really does bring each image to life. No matter how close your eye gets to the pictures you’ll be able to immerse yourself in the images like you’re back there. If you want to be able to create large-scale images, you’ll be able to zoom right in without any pixelation spoiling things.

10,000 x 10,000 dpi is an impressive spec that will be hard to beat

The final thing that I want to draw your attention to is how impressive the dpi is. With this level of spec on offer as standard, you’ll be able to expand and zoom in till your heart’s content. Ideal if you want to turn your slides into photos that you can display with pride on the walls of the family home.

9. DIGITNOW Film scanner with 22MP Converts

I hadn’t heard all that much about these guys but I’m always happy to try new things. To say I was amazed wouldn’t be an overstatement!

22 MP resolution makes this thing more than a match for anything else on my list

The resolution was excellent every single time I loaded something. No matter how grainy the old films I was using, I was able to capture pristine images that kept the full depth of the color in all its glory. If you want to get the most out of your slides, then this device is indeed worth a closer look folks!

I love that this thing accepts all types of SD cards because it allows you to make file transfers so quick and easy. No matter how good you are with PCs, you’ll inevitably fall foul of interfacing or compatibility issues when a software update goes awry. There’ll be no such issues with an SD card by your side folks.

Software interpolator allows you to enhance the definition of old images

The interpolation software is there to let you, to be able to improve the definition and resolution of your images automatically. I really liked this because it allows you to capture the raw image and then let the technology do its thing if you want it to. That is great for those of you that want to know what enhancements you’re making to your images before you finish them off.

Best Film, Slide and Negative Scanner

10. ClearClick Film To USB Converter 35mm Slide and Negative Scanner

With a simple and catchy name like this, how could I not add it to my list? Here’s what I made of it when I took a closer look…

SD port allows you to move your captured images in seconds

The SD port is a beneficial addition because it makes taking your pictures off the device, so easy. They’ll be automatically saved to it so that when you’re finished all, you will have to do, is eject it and be on your way. I love this approach because it means that you won’t have to spend ages fiddling with your PC to try and send the files across.

2.3” color display is detailed and precise — exactly what I like to see

The color display is great because it allows you to review your scans the moment you capture them. That is a nice little touch because if you’re not happy with the look of one frame on a roll, then you can easily redo it right there and then. Certainly beats sifting through a box full of films and slides to try and find the right one that was in the palm of your hand the day before.

Following on from my first subsection is this tremendous little revelation: you get a free SD card! Thatis makes it ideal if you want to be able to use it straight out of the box.
